I just got a 2007FP Dell monitor with height adjustable stand. When you adjust the height all the way down, the stand locks with the monitor so that you can transport the monitor safely. But suppose you want to unlock the monitor: you’re supposed to press the lockdown/release button on the bottom rear of the stand, but it gets stuck: you can’t press it!
What you have to do is push down the monitor just a bit further (it’ll still move a little even though it’s locked down), and then the lockdown/release button will be released.

HAHA, sweetness! My schools computer lab is full of dual monitor setups and half of them have one monitor in the lock down position. It was driving me crazy! Now I want to go around and fix all the others but that may get the lab monitor’s attention.

There are an overwhelming number of “thank you”s here, and I’m adding to the count! I’d fidgeted with mine a number of times, resulting in hopelessness. Just wanted to add to the ‘Thank You’s. The monitor was a hand me down, i picked up because it was bigger than my previous monitor. After 2 days of tinkering with it and still unable to adjust the height, i was feeling like i had made a terrible mistake. But after a quick google, i found your fantastic suggestion. Thank you so much!

I’ve had this “stuck” for 3 1/2 years…even called Dell way back when and spent 45 min being passed around to 3 different depts as they tried figured out how to even help me because I didn’t have a “code” that you get when you buy a computer….my $600 monitor wasn’t eligible for phone service but a $400 computer would be! They never answered my question nor did anyone ever respond to my email.
Unfortunately, your blog wasn’t posted until AFTER I’d given up. I’m so thankful I got ticked with it when moving it around yesterday that I looked it up again and … VOILA! Freakin’ Dell…

In that single aspect I agree it should be in the manual BUT otherwise the Dell 2007FP is most versatile monitor I’ve ever had in 25 years!! . Multiple extra USB ports. Heavy so no wobble. Matte finish so no glare. Nice pass through in the monitor stand for wires. Screen angle adjustable as well as having easy rotation for multiple screens on one desk. VGA or DVI video input plus audio inputs to share speakers between multiple systems. AND the last (apparently) 4:3 aspect monitor ever made in case you want to run below maximum resolution without distortion. (###**XX!!! widescreen)
The engineers that designed this monitor should be cloned! The only thing it isn’t is a high frame rate gaming screen. Fine for other games.
Damn Dell for discontinuing it. Bless Dell for hanging on to this design so long.
Does anyone know a source for unopened stock on this blessed rarity?

Hey !!! Cheers for that info !!. I am amazed that this is such a common poblem with the Dell monitors. Mine is a 1708FPb, and it does’nt say anywhere on the manuals how to actually release the lock from ‘ship’ mode. The question has to be asked – Why did not Dell simply explain (as you did) how to disengage this lock-down in their manuals ??

My iPad
This was the most hated monitor at the office for the last couple of years because it was stuck in the bottom position. Finally I was told to take it home because everyone refused to use it. I figured it was broken. Then my son and I worked on it for this evening determined to figure it out or break it off. Before he had an all out anger attack I decided to google it. In 5 seconds it was fixed. We looked at each other and just smiled!
Thx

Holy smuck!
I’m holding f. stand in my hands for past hour, trying to figure this shit out. Pressing here, pressing there, twisting this bloody thing for f. sake, like an idiot.. Trying youtube – unpacking this thing with some hope to see a glimpse about bloody stand adjustment,… all in vain.
I (kind of ignored) haven’t read the very top headline, ..and I’m reading down here, all these positive comments, and I’m saying, — …….whatttt?
What did they all do? Halfway down, – I went back on top to see where the solution is…………..
So…………. I push this sucker down, an f. thing ‘spring up’ to the top like a butter.. ..give us a break, Dumb Dell idiots!
DumbDell artist who invented this, should get slapped and kicked.

I don’t normally comment on things but this one post seriously just solved a problem I haven’t been able to fix for over 5 years. THAT deserves my gratitude at the very least 🙂

I found this article 10 yrs after I bought my 30in Dell monitor with this lock feature of the height and finally in 3 seconds fixed my height of the monitor. I feel stupid and I am an IT person.

From Sydney Australia – Mate – Thank you – I too started to get road rage just like some of my fellow readers. Lesson: Sometimes you do have to read the manual…

Thanks!! Does this monitor not adjust at different heights? I can’t get it to stay half way up.

mine seems to lean way forward vs back a little–I try everything to straighten it, dropped it on my brand new monitor and made a small chip-so frustrated–their instructions leave alot to be desired.

Totally worked — thank you!! I was thinking the height adjustment had broken, because i could NOT push in that little release button at all. Your page was the first to come up on a google search — did exactly what you suggested, pressing down on monitor whilst pushing in the release button. Presto! You the man. You’ve been getting kudos for this for almost a decade now 🙂
